Local beer wins “Beer of Year”

The Flashback Anniversary Ale, created by the Boulder Beer Company to commemorate its 30th anniversary in 2009, has been named the 2009 Beer of the Year by The Denver Post.

In a Dec. 30 article, the Post named the Flashback Anniversary Ale the greatest they’d tasted that year, adding that they are “hoping Boulder Beer Company makes it a permanent offering.”

The brewery has responded to the praise, announcing the beer’s re-release on March 1 with the new name Flashback India Brown Ale.

According to the Boulder Beer Company, the ale is “hoppy like an IPA, dark and roasty like a Brown — the best of both worlds!” Beverage World Magazine also named the beer’s label a bronze winner in the Best of Beverage Packaging award, acknowledging its merits in graphic design alongside its superb flavor.

A Hearty Sampling of Beers

Wynkoop Brewing Company in Denver will host its “Parade of Darks,” an afternoon of beer sampling, on Jan. 16 from 1 to 5 p.m., featuring over 25 different richly colored beers, including brown ales, porters, doppelbocks, stouts, barley wines and many more. Many of the beers will be Wynkoop Brewery’s own, and guest breweries such as Left Hand, Boulder Beer, Back Country and New Belgium will also be featured. Attendees may purchase tokens at $1 per sample, or a wristband that allows for token-free sampling for $25. Members of the Colorado Brewer’s Guild’s SOCIAL program receive a $5 discount.

The event will be held in Wynkoop’s upstairs pool hall, where guests may indulge in billiards as well as partake in the brewery’s cuisine offerings. For more information, call 303-860-7448.
