Climate change panel: Warming slowdown doesn’t mean much

As the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) kicks off, the Stockholm, Sweden meeting has included some discussion over the much-reported “slowdown” or “pause” in global warming.

Surface temperatures have indeed held steady rather than rising, a press release says. But that doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with climate change models or that global warming is not happening. Ocean heat is still on the rise.

The press release from Climate Nexus, a climate change-focused communications group, says global temperatures should have cooled based on weather patterns. Instead, they briefly counteracted global warming and held temperatures steady.

But when global weather patterns — a double La Nina and a deep solar minimum — abate, surface warming will resume.
