Copper gets its first dusting of snow.

Following on the heels of announcements by Arapahoe Basin and Loveland that those ski areas were making snow for the 2013-2014 season, Copper Mountain has announced the same.

The I-70 resort has also announced an opening date: Nov. 1, one month away.

Copper will be the training home of the 2014 U.S. Alpine Ski Team as the team prepares to compete Feb. 7-23 in Sochi, Russia. The resort is hosting an event Nov. 8 to announce the full U.S. team, give crowds a chance to watch the team practice and get autographs from the athletes.

And — Copper sent out a press release just full of announcements — the ski resort is hosting a competition to win a trip for four to Copper to watch the team practice, stay at Copper Mountain Resort and ski for free. Ski team jackets and a GoPro package are also included.

Entry to the contest is available on Copper’s Facebook page, as are updates on the ski area’s snowmaking.
