Public officials, environmental advocates and business owners will hold a press conference to emphasize the need for regulations on carbon pollution in Denver at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the Tattered Cover bookstore on 16th Street in LoDo.

Among the speakers at the event will be Colorado Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia and Boulder County Commissioner Elise Jones.

The event will “highlight the urgent need for action on unchecked carbon pollution,” a press release from the Sierra Club says.

The press conference is timed to coincide with the Environmental Protection Agency’s listening session in Denver, at which the EPA will take input from the public on potential carbon emissions limits for existing power plants. Last month, the EPA introduced standards for new power plants. At the time, Boulder Weekly reported that the new standards would essentially make new coal power plants impossible without advances is technology to clean coal-burning emissions.

Along with Garcia and Jones, speakers will include Curt Huber, executive director of the American Lung Association in Colorado; Wade Sikorsky, a Montana farmer; John Gale of the National Wildlife Federation; and Colorado Springs small business owner David Zilar.
