NEW NOODLES Wok Eat, a casual Asian-fusion restaurant, has opened at 946 Pearl Street. Priding themselves on using “fresh, well-sourced ingredients,”, Wok Eat’s menu differs from a traditional one in that it lets you “build your box” (that’s what she said) by choosing a base of rice, noodles or veggies, protein, add-ins and sauce. Wok Eat also offers nine “special boxes” ranging from a traditional Kung Pow box with tofu, hand pulled noodles, “saigon sizzle sauce,” onion, peanut and cilantro to the Bhutanese “Mountain Climber” box consisting of braised chicken and egg, red jasmine rice, green curry sauce, mushroom, onion and green onion. Prices average $7-$10. Wok Eat is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

HAVE A BJORGY, BJORGY SWEDISH CHRISTMAS Traditionally, a Swedish Christmas “Julbord” is served buffet-style and could consist of all sorts of different dishes. Classic dishes include Inglad sill (pickled herring), Julskinka (Christmas ham), Pig’s feet, rice pudding and Julmust, a malted soft drink with a taste similar to root beer.

But the “Swedish Christmas” dinner hosted by Denver’s Trillium at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, will be a little different. The four-course meal will start with a winter fruit and cabbage salad followed by root vegetable and potato sausage meatballs with seared kale, spiced egg cream and lingonberries. Look em’ up, they’re real berries. The main course will either be caribou, venison or pork, depending on availability. Dessert will include a cinnamon bun with Swedish pearl sugar, chai ice cream and apple chutney. The din ner will also include amuse bouche (French for appetizers), palate cleanser and wine, beer and cocktail pairings. The rolling seating event will cost $70. Call 303-379-9759 to RSVP.

SHORT AND SWEET, UNLIKE SWEDES For the third year in a row, The Catamounts theatre company will blend food and performance with Feed: Short and Sweet at Sanitas Brewing Company 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. The seated fourcourse meal will feature beer and dessert pairings from Sanitas Brewing Company, Catamounts chef de cuisine Zachary Wilkinson and pastry chef Kathy Moore. Catamount actors, Heather Grimes from Truth Be Told, the FEED house band, and special guests will provide entertainment. Tickets for the event cost $30 and can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com.

PUTTING THE MEPHISTOPHELES BACK IN CHRISTMAS Hey kids? Want to black out for the holidays? Then you’re in luck, cause Avery Brewing is re-releasing its demonically strong Mephistopheles Stout this week.

First brewed in 2005 as the the third installment in Avery’s “Demons of Ale” series, it measures in at 14.5 percent alcohol. Lawdy lawd will that get you drunky drunk.

“For me this is one of the most diverse dessert beers out there,” Adam Avery, the brewery’s president, CEO and brewmaster said in a press release. “It can pair with almost any dessert. It’s perfect for the holidays — a time when we eat tons of food with rich, decadent, and excessive flavors and need a beer that can match up.”

Take note cab drivers: Avery will hold a release party for Mephistopheles on Friday, Dec. 13 at 5 p.m. In addition to the new release, it will feature vintages dating back to 2005 available on tap and in bottles. Get more info at www.averybrewing.com.
