Frozen

Girl on a Bicycle

Inside Llewyn Davis

The Coen brothers craft this story of a homeless young folk singer trying to create a name for himself in the Greenwich Village of the 1960s. Rated R. At Mayan.

The Invisible Woman

Ralph Fiennes (who also directs) shines as the most famous writer of his day, novelist Charles Dickens, who had a secret affair with 18-year-old actress Nelly Ternan (Felicity Jones, Like Crazy). Dickens was 45 and at the top of his fame when he met the beautiful young actress, performing in a troupe with her sisters, and was immediately struck. Her pragmatic mother (Kristin Scott Thomas) encouraged Nelly to welcome the interest of such a famous man, even if she can never become his wife. Rated R. At Century. — Landmark Theatres

Labor Day

A 13-year-old and his mom go shopping only to get abducted and taken back to their home by an escaped and wounded convict. They all grow into a happy family and have to dodge the heat looking for the escaped fellow. Rated PG-13. At Colony Square and Century.

The LEGO Movie 3D

If you still have the stomach for such tales, this film finds Mark Wahlberg telling the story of a group of Navy SEALs on a covert mission gone wrong trying to kill a big-shot Taliban operative. The Monuments Men

Science on Screen: CU Wizard Dr. Nesbitt and ‘Contact’

Dr. David Nesbitt is the winner of the 2013 Science Pacesetter Award. He is the director of the CU Wizards program, which is dedicated to entertaining youngsters while teaching them about science. The program has presented free shows each month for the past three decades. This film is based on a Carl Sagan novel about an astronomer (played by Jodie Foster) who, after years of searching, finds conclusive radio proof of intelligent aliens, who send plans for a mysterious machine. With the help of a rich entrepreneur she mounts an international project to build the machine and send someone in it, even though they are unsure what will happen. At Boedecker. — Boedecker Theater

12 Years a Slave

Weekend of a Champion

In 1971, motor racing fan Roman Polanski spent a weekend with world champion driver Jackie Stewart as he attempted to win the Monaco Grand Prix.
