Benefit for fire victims

Tame the Flame, a benefit for Fourmile fire victims, will be held on Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. at Harpo’s Sports Grill in Boulder. Money raised will go to Foothills United Way, and Avery Brewing and Boulder Beer will provide complimentary beverages to attendees. There will also be a silent auction with items donated from the Fox Theatre, the Dark Horse, The Sink and others. Cost is $20, $15 for students, and includes a buffet meal. The new grill in town

Ted’s Montana Grill, the American grill co-founded by media entrepreneur Ted Turner and awardwinning restaurateur George McKerrow Jr., will open its first restaurant in Boulder at 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 4. Located downtown at 1701 Pearl St., the restaurant marks the company’s ninth location in Colorado. The menu features classic dishes like steaks, meatloaf, pot roast, crab cakes and salmon, as well as 20 different varieties of beef or bison burgers. Drink wine, help kids

The Young Fund’s 8th Annual Wine Tasting to benefit The Children’s Hospital in Denver will be held Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. at Hai Bar Below, located at 3600 W. 32nd Ave., Denver. Tickets are $35 per person and include wine tasting and sushi samples. There will also be a silent auction.

Can-do attitude gets awards

Ball Corporation and ColoradoBiz recognized Oskar Blues’ efforts to support the Colorado Craft Beer movement in September with two awards. Ball Corporation, the producer of Oskar Blues cans, presented Oskar Blues with the “Ball Can Ambassador Award” on Sept. 20 at the Longmont brewery. That same week, ColoradoBiz announced the that Oskar Blues is a finalist for their Top Company Award, which is one of its Colorado’s most competitive business awards.

The Ball Can Ambassador Award celebrates the partnership of Oskar Blues and Ball Corporation, and recognizes the leadership position Oskar Blues has earned by fostering the “Craft Beer in a Can” market in the United States.

The don’s wine fest

Wine in the Pines 2010, a celebration of the wine and work of director Francis Ford Coppola, will be held Oct. 22 and 23 in Keystone. The experience begins Friday evening with the Winemaker’s Dinner.

Guests are encouraged to wear pinstripes, pearls and denim. On Saturday, the grand ballroom doors will open to the International Wine and Gourmet Food Tasting at the Keystone Conference Center.
