Kids, close your eyes

City of Boulder police arrested a man on Nov. 6 after he was reportedly seen masturbating in his home, next to a window, while children were outside. He was expected to be charged with felony indecent exposure.

Police said the 47-year-old stood naked in the window of his apartment in the 5600 block of Arapahoe Ave. and began to masturbate. The man had two earlier convictions for the same crime and two outstanding arrest warrants, the report said.

Get arrested. Check.

Boulder police issued five summonses for conspiracy and criminal mischief after a fraternity scavenger hunt in which players were required to steal various items around town.

Officers were on a routine patrol near McCaddon Cadillac, at 2460 48th Court, on Nov. 10 when they noticed two men running. When they stopped the two men, the officers discovered they were participating in a fraternity scavenger hunt and had stolen street signs, hood ornaments and several other items, and had vandalized other property while playing the game. Three other men believed to be participating were also later issued summonses.

Just not his night

A Boulder man was assaulted on two separate occasions on Nov. 12. Boulder police say the first incident happened at a party in the 1300 block of College Avenue. He reportedly was assaulted by a man and several of his friends after he danced with the suspect’s girlfriend.

After he left the party, a man approached him and asked to borrow his cell phone, according to a police report. After making several calls, the suspect began to walk toward an alley in the 1100 block of Broadway with the phone. When the victim followed him, the suspect reportedly punched him and told him to get on the ground, where he kicked him before taking his wallet.

The victim had some scratches and bruises, but no serious injuries. Police say there is no apparent connection between the two incidents.

Money scams galore

Boulder police took a call from a woman on Nov. 9 who said she wired more than $11,000 to multiple people after she had received an e-mail saying she had won $1.5 million in a sweepstakes.

The victim told police that she wired the money over several days to various people in Costa Rica after she got the e-mail. She said the e-mail told her somebody would be by to drop off the money at her house, but the money never came.

In an unrelated case, Boulder police contacted a woman who said her live-in nanny had stolen her identity. The nanny ran up $15,000 in charges with the victim’s credit card since January, the report said.

No arrests have been made in either case.

Assault amnesia

On Nov. 9, a man was admitted to Boulder Community Hospital with abrasions on his face, a broken nose and a cut lip. Physicians said his injuries were more consistent with an assault than a fall, but the man did not remember being assaulted.

Later in the day, a passerby in the 1300 block of Canyon Boulevard noticed a wallet on the ground with a lot of blood in the area. Police were able to trace the wallet back to the victim at the hospital.

Suicide trend?

The Boulder Country Sheriff ’s Office responded to several apparent suicides in the past two weeks.

On Nov. 5, deputies and emergency personnel responded to a report of an unresponsive man in the 6200 block of Fourmile Canyon Drive and found a 23-year-old male dead of a gunshot wound to the head.

That same day, personnel also responded to calls of a man in a car near California Gulch and Sawmill. The man was dead at the scene and apparently had hooked a hose from the tailpipe to the inside of his car and left the engine running.

On Nov. 12, deputies responded to North 39th Street after a caller had reported a man slumped over the steering wheel of his car. Emergency responders found the man dead at the scene, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
