New Italian restaurant opening

Tossa, Boulder’s newest Italian restaurant and pizzeria, will open on Oct. 20.

The restaurant will feature thin-crusted artisan pizzas, along with classic and contemporary pasta entrees made with homemade sauces and imported cheeses. Tossa also will offer salads, small plates and paninis.

Every dish listed on the menu will contain a recommendation for a complementing wine.

Tossa is located at 2400 Arapahoe Ave.

Mixology contest on tap at Amaro

On Oct. 16, Amaro Drinkery Italia will host a mixology contest with some of Boulder’s best mixologists.

The contestants will include Bianca Huggins from Amaro, Greg Van Wagner from Oak At Fourteenth, Matt Lanning from Pacifica-Aspen and Brian Melton, formerly of TAG-Denver. Products from 303 Distillery will be used in the competition.

As the bartenders compete, guests will be able to enjoy small snacks from Chef Alec Schuler. They also will determine the winner. The mixology contest will benefit The School Food Project, a local project aimed at getting healthy food in schools.

Tickets cost $20 in advance and $30 at the door, and will be available at Amaro or at amaro303competition.eventbrite.com.

Mateo restaurant turns 10 Mateo restaurant is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month. All month, the restaurant is featuring a classics menu with favorite French dishes that have been served over the years at the restaurant.

Mateo will be hosting a celebration on Sunday, Oct. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. Hors d’ouevres and cocktails will be served.

India’s Clay Oven makes changes under new management

India’s Clay Oven in Boulder is now under new management.

A new all-you-can-eat lunch buffet is open Monday through Friday, with more than 20 items to choose from for $8.99.

Additions to the menu include more diverse vegetarian selections and daily lunch specials. There are also gluten-free, cholesterol-free and vegan options.

The new manager and chef have more than 10 years of experience and have previously operated restaurants in Boulder.

The restaurant, which serves authentic cuisines of India, Nepal and Tibet, is open for dinner seven days a week, from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Lunch is served Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Patio seating is available, and catering orders are welcome.

Garbanzo serves up new products

Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill recently rolled out four new menu items for the fall: Chicken Tagine soup, Garbanzo Bean Stew, Grilled Portobello Mushrooms and Dolmas.

The Chicken Tagine soup is made with Garbanzo’s Chicken Shwarma, along with red onion and sweet potatoes sautéed in Moroccan spices. The Garbanzo Bean Stew, which hits all Garbanzo locations this month, includes tomatoes, red onion, fennel, garbanzo beans and Mediterranean spices. The Grilled Portobello Mushrooms, seasoned with garlic, salt, pepper and olive oil, are offered as an addition to any entrée. The Dolmas are imported from the Mediterranean region and are grape leaves stuffed with rice, onion, mint and other spices.

Odell Brewing unleashes the Friek

On Oct. 24, Odell Brewing will celebrate the return of Friek, its Framboise/Kriek-inspired sour ale and the Gold Medal winner for Wood and Barrel Aged Sour Beers at this year’s Great American Beer Festival.

Friek, an adaptation of a Lambicstyle ale, is aged in oak barrels with cherries grown on Colorado’s Western Slope and blended with hand-picked raspberries.

Odell Brewing will celebrate the return of the beer and its recent medal with a “FRIEK OUT” bash in the brewery’s taproom in Fort Collins on Oct. 29.
