Fourmile fire victims request donations for Larimer

Victims of the 2010 Fourmile Fire are urging Boulder County residents to help those affected by the massive High Park Fire, and one recommended avenue is donating to an emergency fund created by the NoCo Rebuilding Network.

All money contributed to the fund will be allocated to those whose homes have been significantly affected by the fire, and who decide to rebuild sustainably in Larimer County.

The High Park Fire has far eclipsed the Fourmile Fire in terms of size and damage. It has grown to more than 65,000 acres, about 10 times larger than the 2010 blaze in Boulder County, and it has destroyed at least 189 homes, breaking the old record of 169 set by the Fourmile Fire. The 2002 Hayman Fire, the largest in Colorado history, burned more than 137,000 acres and destroyed 133 homes.

Joanne Cole of Gold Hill recalls that during the Fourmile Fire, residents formed the Boulder Mountain Fire Relief Fund about a week into the blaze and raised $800,000 for the local victims and fire departments.

“Our friends and neighbors in Larimer County are going to need help,” Cole says.

The NoCo Rebuilding Network is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization formed in spring 2011 to raise funds, resources and volunteers to assist in sustainable rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of local disasters.
