At Telluride film fest, Ben Affleck, filmmakers debate cynicism

Ben Affleck knows movies can change the world. At a roundtable on terrorism in film at the 2012 Telluride Film Festival, the Hollywood star argued that film directors should keep that in mind and “ward off their cynicism.”

Affleck, whose latest film Argo had a strong opening in Telluride, told the panel to “remember that those of us in America get our education from movies,” and that films’ messages will have a significant impact.

For the filmmakers he was talking to, it was most likely a welcome message, as each had produced a film that makes strong commentary on power, politics and terrorism.
