British climbers unite to oppose Scottish wind farm plans

A large wind farm project in Scotland has rallied some opposition among a rather unlikely group: hikers, climbers and mountaineers from across the British isles.

The British Mountaineering Council and the Mountaineering Council of Scotland have both announced opposition to further development of windmills, saying the renewable energy installations are taking over the Scottish highlands, including Scotland’s highest peaks.

Renewable energy expansion, the groups say, must be tempered by a respect for the natural environment.
