Check out our review and slideshow.]]> <![CDATA[REVIEW: Soundgarden at Red Rocks, July 18]]> A tumultuous roaring sound of fans whistling, screaming and clapping their hands filled Red Rocks Amphitheatre Monday night for a sold out Soundgarden show. A couple of songs into their almost two-hour-long set, Chris Cornell, the frontman of the legendary grunge-metal band, addressed the crowd with a statement. “We’re back!” Cornell said.]]> <![CDATA[Review: Glitch Mob w/ Lotus, MiM0SA, The New Deal & Com Truise at Red Rocks]]> The billing was an interesting mix of instrumental groups and laptop-driven producers: the vibe was set by hipstery synth guru Com Truise, pushed into overdrive by established jam rockers The New Deal, hammered flat by some psychedelic crunk from MiM0SA, uplifted by the ever-graceful Lotus ensemble, then slammed back again into a West Coast stomp led by The Glitch Mob.]]> <![CDATA[REVIEW, SLIDESHOW: Amon Tobin at Boulder Theater, Oct. 18]]> Bravo, Amon Tobin. That is how you put on a transcendental light show: I feel like I just witnessed Berlioz conducting his "Symphonie Fantastique."]]> <![CDATA[Mason Reed falls prey to his own pretension]]> The most obvious culprit for this lack of seriousness is Reed's almost novel approach to vocals. His overly abrasive voice, best exemplified when he sings "This could be your life" on the final track, "Six Shallow Women," makes the whole EP feel almost like a caricature of Willie Nelson.]]> <![CDATA[Social Distortion’s latest will anger mal-adjusted fogies, please well-adjusted ones and everyone else]]> Social Distortion’s latest, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, is a maturity test of sorts. After all, Social D has been playing its unique brand of hard luck punk rock since the early 1980s. Give any band — let alone a punk band — 30 years, and they’re either going to experience some sonic evolution or they’re going to become, at best, one-note redundancies or, at worst, idiotic self-parodies.]]> <![CDATA[REVIEW: Eliot Lipp at the Fox Theatre, Dec. 7]]> For those who didn’t sweat the end of another semester, last night’s Fox show was a really good local showcase of mid-tempo get-low beats helmed by respected downtempo maestro Eliot Lipp. ]]> <![CDATA[Rusty Anderson firmly grounded for latest album]]> Rusty Anderson has been an unsung hero of popular alternative music in the last 20 years. He’s been Paul McCartney’s right hand man and lead guitarist since 2001. He’s worked with Willie Nelson, Elton John and Regina Spektor. He even contributed the now-famous guitar riff to Ricky Martin’s “Livin’ La Vida Loca.”]]> <![CDATA[SLIDESHOW: Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge]]> December 15-18 brought some of the best winter athletes to Breckenridge to compete in the Winter Dew Tour, a three-stop competition. Boulder Weekly's Dane Cronin was there and took some sweet picture]]> <![CDATA[Powerbag keeps you powered up]]> We now live in an era where we carry an abundance of portable electronic devices on us. Whether it’s a phone, a camera, an iPod, tablet computer or some other device, we find the need to stay connected and powered up. But what if the battery of your iPad is at 10 percent or your smart phone’s battery indicator is in the red and there are no available outlets to power up?]]> <![CDATA[SLIDESHOW: Mastodon, Dillinger Escape Plan at the Ogden Theatre]]> Dane Cronin snapped the following pics at last night's Mastodon show. Check them out.]]> <![CDATA[Review and gallery: Danzig at the Boulder Theater]]> Glenn Danzig is far from a household name, but in the hardcore/metal world, few figures are more influential. From his work in the Misfits to his eponymous solo albums, Danzig's voice and songwriting have influenced countless hardcore and metal bands, and at 55, he is one of the genre's elder statesmen. But don't let that fool you into thinking he's become complacent, or that he has somehow lost his edge.]]> <![CDATA[Resistance 3 brings more enemies, weapons to the battle]]> With the Resistance series making its debut on the Playstation 3 back in 2006, it has quickly become one of the best franchises on the system. Now in its third iteration, Resistance 3 continues the story of a world being invaded and occupied by an alien race called the Chimera in an alternate 1950’s era of the United States.]]> <![CDATA[REVIEW: Bassnectar at Red Rocks]]> Bassnectar is exactly that — a sweet distillation of low-frequency pollens, collected from the flowers of many sizes and colors. And just like the name implies, the crystalline sugar that results from all that busy-bee gathering is always the king of the show. Seeing DJ Lorin Ashton’s black mane thrashing behind the mixing board, or the blinding light installation that serves as his backdrop, is great, but it’s the chest-shaking, face-melting bass that brought Red Rocks to capacity and kept everyone moving (or forcibly vibrating) during the more-than- three-hour set. ]]> <![CDATA[SLIDESHOW: Big Head Todd and the Monsters at eTown]]> Dane Cronin snapped photos at the Big Head Todd and the Monsters show last night at the Boulder Theater. Check them out and wish you had been there.]]> <![CDATA[Weak lyrics aside, Imogen Heap and Gregory Alan Isakov delight sold-out eTown audience]]> Imogen Heap’s enchanting voice is one part Tori Amos, one part Alicia Keys, and almost every moment of her music is flush with a touch of just slightly un-proper English charm.]]> <![CDATA[CD review: "Exits & All The Rest" by Girl in a Coma]]> If you gave Girl in a Coma’s new CD, Exits & All The Rest to 10 different people, you’d likely receive in return 10 different opinions about which established female vocalist lead sing]]> <![CDATA[REVIEW: Technicolor Tone Factory at the Fox Theatre]]> The first week of school can be rough, as students are only half-awake from the slumber of winter break. When nary a soul was at the Fox Theatre when the doors opened for Boulder group Technicolor Ton]]>
