Boulder’s coolest mid-week happy hours have returned with the reopening of the Wednesday night edition of the Boulder County Farmers’ Market in Boulder for the season. More than 20 farm stands will be dishing early season crops and the beer garden features ales from Sanitas Brewing, FATE Brewing and other locals.

Luckily, 13 vendors will be serving international fare including newcomers Cafe Aion, Thrive and Zeal. Another rookie, Seeds Library Café, boasts a locally sourced menu including a kale and pear salad and a chicken causa. The venerable Amaizing Tamales booth is dishing a steamed pistachio tamale, Savory Saigon has beef pho washed down with iced maté from Rincon Argentino.

THIS WEEK

The Colorado Chocolate Festival is May 7 at the Denver Mart serving tastes of everything from truffles to chocolate martinis (chocolate-festival.org). … Boulder’s other contribution to national holidays (besides National Pie Day, January 23) is National Homebrew Day (this year May 7), celebrated by the locally based American Homebrewers Association. At 1 p.m. homebrewers are encouraged to raise a glass in a simultaneous toast. Note: Both days were instigated by local pie and brew icon Charlie Papazian. … Haystack Mountain Creamery hosts its monthly First Friday Open Creamery Social Hour 3 to 6 p.m. May 6 at 505 Weaver Park Road, Longmont with free tours, cheese samples and the chance to quiz the cheesemaker (haystackgoatcheese.com/events).

The “Grocerant” trend in action: One of Denver’s hottest ethnic eateries, Biju’s Little Curry House, has opened a stand in the Pearl Street Whole Foods Market. Meanwhile, Longmont’s Georgia Boys BBQ will be serving Southern fare every Wednesday at the Boulder Alfalfa’s Market. … Five on Black, a fast casual chain serving Brazilian fare, has opened a store at 29th Street. … Boulder’s Paleo-centric Blooming Beets will open a second location in Denver’s Baker neighborhood in 2017.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

Anthony Bourdain “performs” Nov. 13 at Denver’s Paramount Theater. “To me, life without veal stock, pork fat, sausage, organ meat, demi-glace, or even stinky cheese is a life not worth living,” the CNN star wrote in Kitchen Confidential, his breakthrough memoir (ticketmaster.com).
