Live wolves, hawks – and 200 scientists and academics – in
the same room?

No, it’s not a feeding frenzy. The Defenders of Wildlife’s
2009 Carnivore Conference rolls into Denver next week, where it will discuss
conservation and legal issues affecting native Colorado wildlife.

Climate change will be a main focus of the conference, which
runs Nov. 15-18 at the Grand Hyatt Denver in downtown.

Activities range from a special tour of the Denver Zoo
(Sunday, 10 a.m.) to screenings of various films to keynote speakers, such as
National Geographic photographer and author Joel Sartore.

More than 200 experts from around the world will be in
attendance.

The welcome reception is Sunday evening at 7.
