Festivus

7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, Dickens Opera House, 300 Main St., Longmont, 720-297-6397.

For those who desire a different holiday this December, there exists a joyous festival to celebrate instead: “Festivus, for the rest of us!” The holiday came into the public sphere on the sitcom Seinfeld through Frank Costanza, who wanted to avoid the commercial and religious aspect of other holidays. The true origin of the holiday comes from Seinfeld writer Daniel O’Keefe’s father, who created it back in the 1960s. But regardless, if you’re looking for a break from Christmas or if you’re a Seinfeld fan, stop by the Dickens to partake in an evening of laughter and music with comedy, an open mic and various Festivus traditions.
