What if North Korea doesn’t back down on its threats?

President Barack Obama is taking a calculated risk in his negotiations with North Korea. The Asian country is following a similar pattern; Obama is trying something new. Whether it will work, nobody knows.

North Korea’s inexperienced leader, Kim Jong Un, son of previous leader Kim Jong Il, has stepped up the rhetoric against the United States and South Korea, suggesting that war is imminent and that his country is canceling the armistice that ended the Korean War.

Typically, when Jong Il made this move, the purpose was to force Western powers to negotiate and loosen trade restrictions with North Korea. But Obama isn’t making that move. Instead, he’s simply standing pat, letting North Korea talk war and assuming the country won’t start one.

But what if Jong Un decides to start one?
